How to get rid of termites?

 Termites are very small insects that causes a lot of destruction. Sometimes it becomes a headache to get rid of termites. It is very important to deal with them especially for structures made up wood, because they primarily feed on wood.

Following are some ways through which you can get rid of termites;

Ø Expose effected pieces to sunlight.

        Termites are cold blooded insects, so they avoid temperature fluctuation as much as possible. This is the reason they made mud tubes. They can stand only up to 100 degree Fahrenheit. In direct sunlight their nests dry and they start dying.

Ø Use chemicals that are fatal for termites.

        You can also use various synthetic or natural chemical to get rid of termites, just like following;

 Neem oil or orange oil.

Both of the above mentioned oil are considered very poisonous for termites. They are easy to so treat the wood with these oils to get rid of  termites.

Pest repellents. 

Taurus SC and Bifan XTS are repellents that are proved very helpful in eliminating termites. Aerosols (a mixture of liquid and pressurized gas) can also be used to propel termites from houses.

 Boric acid.

Boric acid is a synthetic chemical that is very lethal for termites. When termites lick it, it prevents the absorption of nutrients and termites start starving and die.

Ø Maintain a distance between soil and wood.

 About 80-90 % termite infestation happen when wood get in contact with soil. Try to have concrete foundation in contact with soil. There should be at least 15 inch gap between soil and wooden structures. Firewood should be stacked at least 20 feet above the ground on concrete foundations.

Ø Use a freezer or microwave to get rid of termites.

    Termites are very sensitive to temperature they can only survive between 75 to 95 degree Fahrenheit. Use large freezers to store infected pieces, they will lower the temperature below 75 degree Fahrenheit or use large microwaves they will increase temperature above 95 degree Fahrenheit, in both cases termites could not manage their body temperature and ultimately die.

Ø Cardboard traps.

    Take three or four pieces of cardboard stack them upon each other and put some water on it, your trap is ready. Put it near furniture, termites will be automatically attracted towards it. You can also use some termite killing substances on cardboard traps that will kill termites. This is the easiest way to get rid of termites.

Ø Use natural insects that feed on termites.

    There are very beneficial insects that feed on termites and other insects. They also not affect your structures. If you are dealing with subterranean termites then “nematodes” are best option to use. They are fast acting and not needed to use again and again because the breed naturally.
